Near Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, PA is some of the cleanest burning coal known as anthracite coal. First discovered in 1790 in Pottsville, anthracite coal spurred a mining industry, labor disputes, and energy for homes and trains. It’s controversial nature has added to the folk lore of PA history that its descendants still carry today.
